I. Color Models
- Grey Scale - Black & White or Shades of Gray
- CMYK - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black (Color space for Printing products eg. Printer)
Primary Colors in CMYK printing industry — Cyan (Blue hue), Magenta (Red hue), Yellow
Pigments on Printing materials absorbs light.
Cyan + Magenta + Yellow = Black (Mixing Three Primary colors gives BLACK.)
Cyan + Magenta = Blue
Cyan + Yellow = Green
Magenta + Yellow = Red
- RYB - Red, Yellow, Blue (Color space for traditional color wheel)

Digital screens emit light.
Red + Green + Blue = White (Adding these three colors together gives WHITE.)
II. Color Schemes (Traditional color wheel)
- Triad
Primary Triad - Red, Yellow, Blue (Primary colors)
Primary colors are the source of all other colors. i.e. Every other color has at least one of these primary colors as a base color.
Secondary Triad - Orange, Violet, Green (Secondary colors)
Secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors.
Orange = Red and Yellow
Violet = Red and Blue
Green = Yellow and Blue
Tertiary Triad - Red-Orange, Yellow-Green, Blue-Violet;
Red-Violet, Yellow-Orange, Blue-Green (Tertiary colors)
Tertiary colors are created by mixing two adjacent primary and secondary colors.
Red-Orange = Red and Orange
Blue-Green = Blue and Green
*Neutrals (Achromatic = Without color, Without hue) - Black, White and Grey are most common neutral colors which are not on the color wheel.
Black is created by mixing all primary colors in proper amount.
- Tetrad - Two sets of complementary colors
Red, Green, Violet and Yellow
- Analogous colors - Adjacent Like colors
Violet, Blue-Violet, Blue, Blue-Green, Green, etc
Mixing analogous colors (like colors) together gives vibrant look.
- Complementary colors - Opposite colors
Red and Green, Blue-Violet and Yellow-Orange, Yellow and Purple, etc
Mixing a color and its complement together gives neutrals (muted, dull look)
Placing them side by side gives vibrant or bright effect.
- Split-Complementary colors - A color and the two colors adjacent to its complement
Green, Red-Orange, Red-Violet
- Analogous Complementary colors - A color, its complement and colors adjacent to that complement
Green, Red, Red-Orange, Red-Violet
- Monochromatic color - Color variations of the single hue
Mono = One/Single
Chrome = Color

III. Color Properties
- Hue - Name of the color or Shade of the color (အရောင်တူ မျိုးကွဲ)
Blue Hues - Turquoise Blue, Royal Blue, Cobalt Blue, etc (*Single color with different hues)
Red Hues - Scarlet, Burgundy, Maroon, Ruby Red, etc

- Value - Lightness or Darkness of the color (အနုအရင့်)
- Crimson Red and Coral Red (*Single color with different hues) (အရောင်တူ မျိုးကွဲ)
- Using Grayscale chart, Yellow is the lightest (High value) and Violet is the darkest (Low value) on the color wheel. (*Different colors) (အရောင်မတူ)
Lightness - High value (+ white) White - Light Reflecting color (Tint)
Darkness - Low value (+ black) Black - Light Absorbing color (Shade)
- Saturation/Chroma - Intensity, Strength, Brightness of the color
Royal blue - high saturation (Vibrant color), Powder blue - low saturation (Dull Color)
High saturation (Less gray) (Tone)
Low saturation (More gray) (Tone)
The grayer the color, the less its saturation
- Temperature - Coolness or Warmness of the color
Cool colors - Green, Blue, Violet, etc
Warm colors - Yellow, Orange, Red, etc
Add Yellow to Green/Violet - it will become warmer (Warm green)
Add Blue to Green/Violet - it will become cooler (Cool Green)
Coolest color - Blue (You can’t add any other colors to make blue cooler)
Warmest color - Orange
- Desaturation of a color
Tint = Color + White (Lighter color) (High value)
Shade = Color + Black (Darker color) (Low value)
Tone = Color + Gray
Mute = Color + Complement
Near Mute = Color + Split-Complements
